Although it's like an established fact that Microsoft Windows has a market share of more than 92% and with the recent release of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Apple has gained 8% of market share, there are other reasons majority of the CIOs
Nearly all the business users can't and don't make a change just because of the bells and whistles of a Operating System. Hardware compatibility and new user training issues are the first that CIOs have to consider before making an OS swith.
And it's a situation that looks unlikely to change. A recent poll of the Silicon.com CIO Jury found that none of the IT chiefs surveyed said the release of Snow Leopard will prompt their businesses to adopt Apple desktops.
Very true but sad. I love Mac but it is very hard to work with a Mac due to their lack of compatibility! For instance, trying to project a Power Point presentation... you need a ~$100 Mac specific cord or a ~$25 adapter! Also, you need to purchase a 3rd party and a license to Windows to run PC applications on a Mac... very exhausting trying to keep up!
ReplyDeleteThanks entrancepoint. Apple has too much hardware compatibility issues. Even the realse of Snow Leopard doesn't solve it. It wouldn't have been a problem if Apple hadn't decided to make OS X available for Intel. But now it is a problem. Because every Intel users wishes to hear the bells and whistles of Mac.
ReplyDeleteI myself own an Intel Mac, but I fortunately dished out the $ for Parallels which lets me run Windows, (i used my install CD) on my Mac. One of a FEW good things the Mac allows are multi-video web confrences via iChat... Skype does not allow more than 2 video parties at a time. Also the ability to work on the same project together and share screen without the Go2Meeting account.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I did. I also tried VMWare Fusion (for Mac) and it's good. And yes! I love the iChat in Mac especially because of it's video backdrop feature :-)
